Day three of #MarchoftheWriters

Writing Muzak

You all know that I dabble in lots of different fiction genres, one would think every genre would come with a different genre of music. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong!

No matter, if I was writing my YA fantasy duology, Illusional Reality, or one of the OUTLAW dark romances series, or even some poetry ( rarely ) I would always have music on in the background, or coming through headphones, as it helps me get lost in the world I’ve created.

And the genre of music? Those that know me well. \m/

I’ve never done a playlist in my books. I probably never will. I doubt my readers would care what I listen to when I write. But here’s a few, so you get the idea. Each song tells its own story, Epic shit!

This last one is very special to me. It’s the song that I used to sing when I sang lead in a rock band… back in the day. Yep, I could hit those F-ing notes!

Time For A Musical Break

Meet Violets Leap

Violets Leap are a 4piece alternative rock band from north wales, UK.

Formed in early 2018 with a shared desire to make music that illustrates a range of influences but with its own recognisable sound. By summer 2018, the band had pulled together a short set of original material and began gigging around the local area.

Violets Leap combine elements of punk, metal, grunge, metal core, emo and more into their own brand of alternative rock. High energy and sweeping melodies are a strong feature on all tracks.

By autumn 2018, the sound and songs had matured enough to release their first EP, Ghost of Violet.

Early 2019 saw a return to the studio to release their second EP, ‘Broken Futures’. Four more edgy songs with intriguing stories and catchy melodies which were accompanied by a run of performances at clubs and festivals.

Late 2019 saw a return to the studio and the release of a third ‘Source of Addiction’, soon to be available on digital platforms.

What can I say about this track. Just wait until those drums and electric guitar come in. Awesome!

When I was chatting with the guys on FaceBook I asked them where they got their name from as it’s such an unusual name for a rock band. The story I got back deserved a mention.
There was a woman named Violet, a con woman who managed to con a man out of a fortune by telling him she was coming into a large inheritance and would pay him back. Well sex and money, so no more. Only on the day, she was due to get this inheritance her car was found in the sea. It looked like a suicide, but a body was never found. She would have gotten away with it but she was seen and recognized in Scotland where she was hiding. So the cliff drop was named Violets Leap.

Where to find and listen to Violets Leap.

In this day and age where bands can’t go out and do live gigs or are in lockdown and can’t get to the studios, it’s more important than ever to support independent bands. So have a listen to Violets Leap’s music. Send them a message, buy their EP’s and show your support.

International Day of Metal

I had a chat with Iron Mathew founder of the International Day of Metal.

Why did you want to do this and what made you decide on that date?

There are many recognized international days of this and that, but none for heavy metal music, and as an avid fan of this genre I decided to create one. As for the date, well it had to be something memorable and as 6/6 is International Slayer Day, I doubled the numbers and chose 12/12, which then makes the inaugural day 12/12/12

What are you trying to accomplish?

I want to get everyone talking about this day and maybe get it recognised as a yearly international day. Heavy metal is one of the most popular genres ever and it should be recognised and celebrated.

How many members have you gathered so far?

As at 21/4/12 the Facebook group has over 2,930 members, and there are 11 official supporters for this day. Official supporters are those organisations, people, bands or anyone who posts a link on their website for International Day Of Heavy Metal, in return, a reciprocal link is placed on our home page.  47 countries have signed up (so far)

Will you be organizing any get together or festivals?

Personally no, but my hope is that others will. I plan on taking the day off work and spend it with my windows open, playing  as many classic heavy metal songs as I can.  I hope clubs, and bars will organize get together. I know a few bands are planning on organizing some gigs.

So now you know the date 12/12/12

celebrate loud and proud the International day of Metal.

As most of you know my favorite heavy metal band is Iron Maiden. If you want to know what going to a Maiden concert is like then you need to read In Times of Violence, YA urban thriller.   https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/130101
