A Children’s Book With A Difference

There are so many amazing children’s books, that entertain the kids and many carry life lessons within the story. Micki Wescotts’s book is the same apart from one detail. Micki writes these cute stories in a way that will start a conversation with your child.

If your child is quiet and shy, this book could finally get them to open up and get them to talk with you. This isn’t just a storybook for foster children, it’s for all children. These tales will stay with them and may start up a conversation the next day about the story.

You will meet Sara who didn’t go to kindergarten regularly and wanted to make sure her baby brother was safe.

Kittens who learned to forgive.

Billy bear who benefited from therapy.

10 little bugs who took care of moma and popa.

And a flower who realized it’s not so bad to live somewhere else.

And what makes Micki Wescott qualified to write these special books?

With over 22yrs + experience with foster care, wrap around services, mentoring, IEP navigation, trauma- based- behavior, abuse/neglect, holding a Master Life/Master Mindset certificate as well as Para-Social work/ Sign La proficiencies, the author desires to create that safe conversation space so the child can discuss openly what’s on their mind and heart.

Day 18 #MarchoftheWriters

Digital or Analog

When I saw a Kindle for the first time I thought, they would never take off. I was adamant I was not going near them. I was never going to buy a Kindle. I loved my paperbacks…. However, I moved and there was only one cabinet for my books and so I had to choose, which books, I was going to give away and which series of paperbacks I was going to keep on my books shelf. And I had a lot of books in boxes ready to go to charity.

So, you can see where I’m going with this now. My first Kindle which was a Christmas prezzie from hubby had over 100 books on it in the first week. and I suddenly became an avid reader again.
My poor paperwhite the original Kindle, sadly died on me last year and I have no intention of getting another as I have the ebook Apps on my laptop.
So, I’m a converted paperback reader. The only paperbacks I read now, are my own… Well, I have got 15 of them. lol

What is your choice, ebooks or paperback?

What I don’t like and I’m pretty pissed off about. Is that ebooks were invented to save the reader and publisher money. No paper, no printing cost, no distribution. But then the authors and publishers got greedy. Can you believe The JK Rowling’s last book, cost more to buy as an ebook, than it did to buy a paperback. That is so wrong and not what ebooks were invented for.

Can you feel the Rage?

EXCERPT

Two days passed when I got a call from Blade.

“West has called you out. You’re racing tonight. Be at the pub by nine.”

This is what the club had been waiting for. My race against West was gonna bring in some big bucks, and I wasn’t about to lose. I had a name, street cred, and a reputation as a winner, and now West wanted a piece of me. I’d know how much Blade put on me when I got my ten percent, I thought hungrily. I wanted this. I could already taste the victory.

I met up with Blade in the bar and he pulled me to one side.

“You’ve won four out of four races,” he said. “Now I want you to lose.”

I stared at him. “You want me to lose?” I repeated.

“Yes.”

“How much you putting on this race?” I asked.

“Enough. Listen, this is between us, understand?”

“Yes and no,” I answered.

“Don’t make it look too easy. I don’t want Rage accused of fixing the race. It’s got to be a close call. Here’s five hundred,” he whispered and put a roll of money in my fist. No one saw the exchange. “And you still get your ten percent, okay?”

“Okay,” I said.

I didn’t know where Blade was going with this. I wanted to keep up my winning record, but he was the president and, as a member of Rage, I had to follow his orders.

Although there were other members racing that night, mine was the one everyone was talking about and would continue talking about, after I lost the race. I was not looking forward to it. Everyone was rooting for me, and I was about to let them all down, apart from Blade. Five hundred pounds. Five hundred pounds, I kept repeating in my head.

There were loads of spectators already waiting when we got to the rendezvous point. Word must have gotten out.

West was sitting on his Ducati with a big grin on his face and two blondes standing on either side of him. I wished I could wipe that smile off his face, but I knew he’d be shouting about his win for weeks, months even. I turned my sight back to the bike in front and followed the convoy through the deluge of spectators.

I was first up. It was such an anticipated race that no one was willing to wait or interested in watching other racers. I saw a lot of money exchange hands as I suited up. Sitting on my bike, waiting for the flag to drop, my heart was racing. Adrenaline was pumping, but this time it wasn’t because of the coming rush. Inside, I was furious. I could take West. There’d be no contest.

While I was trying to get into the ‘zone’, I pictured another race with West; this time, I won, and as I had lost the last, the stakes had been raised. I pictured myself with a helmet full of notes. A thought occurred. Blade was a smart man; maybe this was just the beginning of the hustle.

As soon as the flag dropped, my bike flew. I was already in the lead, and, from my mirror, I saw West closing the gap. The blur of spectators passed, and then it was just me and the road ahead. I allowed him to come alongside me. It was best if it looked like a dead heat. Man, I was so close, I could taste the victory. I needed to ease off slowly, but my body had other ideas. My grip was frozen.

I could see the finish line. My heart was pounding. My breath stuck in my chest. I managed to move my fingers, and that’s when West’s front tyre overtook mine and crossed the line first.

I slammed on the brakes and skidded to a stop.

“—-, —-!” I yelled, banging my fists on the tank. I wanted to throw my bike down in disgust, but it wasn’t her fault. Instead, I rode over to the side and parked the bike before taking my helmet off and throwing it on the ground. For good measure, I kicked it across the road. Anyone in the vicinity could hear my verbal abuse. They kept their distance. It was obvious I was upset, but not for the reason they thought.

Blade found me leaning against a wall, my arms crossed tight against my chest.

“I know that must have been hard,” he said.

“You’ve no —— idea,” I spat, and then walked away from him.

Doc then came jogging over. “What happened, Gem?”

“He had a better bike,” I said.

“Did he?”

I saw the look in his eyes. He knew the truth.

“Come on,” he said, nudging my shoulder. “I’m racing next, and I need your support.”

I smiled. He didn’t need me. He had enough support. However, I stood at the starting line to watch him and even put a small bet on him. I knew he’d win for me. Out of elation, I ran up to him and planted a hard kiss on his lips. Doc pulled me to him. His mouth opened, and we kissed fervently. I had never felt anything like it. My stomach turned in a good way. It went right down to my —-. The hairs on my arms stood up, and I swear I saw a spark. I loved the taste of him, and I wanted more. I had never felt so much passion from one kiss. Whistles from our audience broke the special moment. We stepped away but couldn’t take our eyes off one another.

“Whoa!” I spoke.

“My sentiment exactly,” Doc replied breathlessly.

“About bloody time,” Blade shouted.

I don’t know about Doc, but I had a huge grin on my face and was red from embarrassment.

“Come back to my place,” Doc whispered. I nodded and boy, did my heart race.

BROKEN CHAINS- DARK MAFIA ROMANCE

Blurb

If only she had stuck to singing in bars.

If only the idea of wanting to become an author had never entered her mind.

If only she’d never met Alex.

That one meeting had caused an avalanche of fate to clash with a dangerous destiny that forced Liz Finely to become the most wanted woman in the world. Stalked by three deadly mafia bosses, Liz has to learn to survive.  Passed from one brutal hand to another, tortured, and abused, it’s her blood, her name, which lands her in trouble each time.

Now it’s up to Liz to find the strength to accept and become who she’s meant to be, and finally, break the chains that bind her.

Please note: This book is adult only due to graphic scenes of sex and violence.

Excerpt

Liz was dreading meeting the “family” as he called them and certainly had no appetite. Her nerves were messed up and it wasn’t until Maria came into the room to help her dress, that she realised she had stayed in bed staring at the wall for hours. She had no idea it was so late. Her stomach churned.“May I give you some advice?” Maria said softly in Italian. Liz nodded.

“Don’t speak unless they ask a question. Don’t look them in the eye. Keep your head down, eat quietly and be respectful. They don’t know you. They won’t trust you and you need to earn their respect, but they will expect respect from you right away.”

“Grazie. Capisco.”

(Thank you. I understand)

Maria picked out a red knee-length skater dress. It was modest and covered her arms. Liz still has fading bruises on her face and her fingers were still sore and swollen. She had difficulty holding a hairbrush and her hands didn’t have the strength to get the tangles out of her hair, so Maria combed her hair and put it half up and half down, then curled the tips. Mascara and a little lip gloss finished off her look. Wearing flat silver shoes, she followed Maria downstairs and then stopped outside the office door.

“The Boss wants to speak with you before dinner.”

Maria touched Liz’s arm. “Good luck.”

“Grazie,” Liz answered, and took a deep breath before knocking on the door.

“Entra,” Marco called out.

Liz walked inside the office, with her head down and stood beside his desk.

“Please sit,” he said. “You may look up. Before we go to dinner there is one small matter we need to address. I’m sure you know what the Omertà is?”

Liz swallowed before answering. “It’s a code of silence.”

Marco nodded. “That is correct. Do you know what will happen if you break the Omertà?”

“I and anyone I have talked to about your business will be killed.”

Marco slid a piece of paper over to her and gave her his fountain pen. “Good, then sign and we can go to dinner.”

Her hands shook as she took the pen, knowing if she signed, she was giving her oath and life to the Italian mafia. Then again, if she refused to sign, Marco would probably pull out his gun and shoot her where she stood.

Taking a deep breath, she signed on the dotted line above Marco’s signature.

Review Quotes

“I loved it. The story to me was amazing. Very well written and it really kept my interest all the way to the end.”

“So many twists. You kept me guessing right to the end.”

“The story behind all the violence held my interest until the end. “

“You show Liz’s true strength of character in the well written novel with hot erotic scenes while her torture was realistic and cringe worthy.”

Thya Gets Grilled.

Thya is interviewed by The Protagonist Speaks, blog.

Dear readers, tonight with us is a marketing exec turned heir to a magical kingdom. She’s here to tell us about power and destiny.

Tell us a little about where you grew up. What was it like there?

Well, I’m from the UK, at least I thought I was. Turned out I was adopted and was born in Tsinia a magical land on Enumac.  My adopted parents were amazing and gave me love and everything I needed.  Thanks to them, I went to college and studied hard and then got a position in a prestigious Marketing firm and worked my way up before becoming an executive.

I was happy in my own way. I lived by myself in a converted loft in the centre of town and was single and I thought my life path was set. But little did I know that everything I thought was real was just an illusion  and everything I knew as truth, was, in fact, a lie,

What do you do now?

Now I’m Queen of Tsinia, my real home. Guardians to the Changlins (the sacred stones.) When I found out who I was, it took a lot to finally accept my rightful destiny.  I was very stubborn, well I still am. But I refused to take the crown and demanded they send me back home. Especially when I found out what they had planned for me. Can you imagine, waking up in a  strange land, being told you are the heir and you have magical powers and that you’re to marry an evil warlord’s son, which it was said, he was the one who slew my parents, the rulers of Tsinia (the Ganties.)

I didn’t know these Tsinians and yet their govern committee decided that an alliance between the two lands, Senx and Tsinia would create peace and I was supposed to be the cement. So stubborn me refused their plans and to meet with Darthorn and my decision caused death and destruction. Knowing what I do, If I could have gone back, I would have done things a lot differently.

EMPOWER A REFUGEE

When you meet people that give everything unselfishly and ask for nothing back in return, It just makes you think about how much we take for granted.

Her first book Committee of One is about the time she lived in The Middle East, and instead of hanging with the Britsh ladies sipping tea and playing bridge, she decided she wanted to know the people, their language, and their way of life and so travelled through the camps; disgusted with what she saw and the state of their living conditions. Through this experience, she met a woman called Leila Wahbeh. Everything about her relationship with this lady, and their family had been written in a book causing the history of Patricia’s experiences to be in print for the rest of time.

Holt’s new book, EMPOWER A REFUGEE, Peace of Thread and the Backyard Humanity Movement, released in January 2020, shares the stories of refugee women in Clarkston, Georgia, a community of 51 nations in one square mile outside Atlanta, and Denise Smith, the Founder of Peace of Thread.  She and her volunteers teach the women to sew and sell one-of-a-kind handbags and accessories.  When they graduate from her training program they are given a sewing machine and supplies, enabling them work from home while caring for their children.  Like Wahbeh, Smith gives a hand up where she lives.

Beautiful, Frightening, and Silent  by Jennifer Gordon

51m8kxYPV9L

Blurb:

Adam, a young alcoholic, slowly descends into madness while dealing with the psychological scars of childhood trauma which are reawakened when his son and wife die in a car accident that he feels he is responsible for.  After a failed suicide attempt, and more group meetings that he can mention. Adam hears a rumor of a Haunted Island off the Coast of Maine, where “if someone wants it bad enough” they could be reunited with a lost loved one.

In his desperate attempt to connect with the ghost of his four-and-a half year old son, he decides to go there, to Dagger Island, desperate to apologize to, or be condemned by, his young son. Adam is not sure what he deserves or even which of these he wants more.

While staying in a crumbling old boarding house, he becomes involved with a beautiful and manipulative ghost who has spent 60 years tormenting the now elderly man who was her lover, and ultimately her murderer. The three of them create a “Menage-a-Guilt” as they all come to terms with what it is that ties them so emotionally to their memories and their very “existence”.

Beautiful, Frightening, and Silent is a poetic fever dream of grief, love, and the terrifying ways that obsession can change who we are.

Excerpt:

Chapter 1

She walks slowly to his bed, leaving a trail of wet footprints in her stead. She is a ghost ship, silently making its way across the sea of his room. She looks at his sleeping form, he is curled in on himself. When he was younger and stronger, he would sleep like a warrior. He was so proud. He would dominate everything, his bed, his dreams, even sleep itself would bow down under his perceived strength.

He is so much older now. These days he sleeps like a child, or a cat, both starving but petrified of the mouse.

She hears the rattling of death, climbing out from the deepest parts of his lungs each time he exhales. It was the little things like these moments, she supposed, that she grew to love. They were her favorite part of all of this. Her favorite part of this very long endless day.

This existence, it is not a life, but it is not death. She is in the in-between. She is in the empty.

She climbs into his bed and into his world. She lies next to him; her body is damp and seemingly heavy. Her wet hair and wet face, and waterlogged body creep into his dreams. She is a memory revitalized, a nightmarish creature, a visitor come back to stay.

She stares at him, intently, she is focused. You would think, after 60 years she would grow tired of his face, of this, her nightly ritual, but she hasn’t, and she expects she never will. She stares until she feels something building in her throat, it’s her anger, it’s her fear, it’s her rage. It feels like fire, it burns inside her, aching to get out.

He opens his eyes, with the confusion of age, alcohol and

too many dreams. Before thinking better of it, his arm reaches across the bed. It reaches for her memory. He finds the other side of the bed empty, but damp. She doesn’t let him touch her, not for many years. In the morning, his sheets will smell like the ocean, at least her side of the bed will. It will have the aching scent of brine, salt, and wet. It is so different from the way his side smells, which is of tears, whiskey, and the sour sweat of fear.

He gets up, ignores the wet foot prints she leaves on the floor, the ones that lead to his bed, the ones that circle him while he sleeps. He plods to the bathroom, washes his face, rinses the staleness out of his mouth, he thinks for a moment he sees her out of the corner of his eye. She will always look the same, with her soaked hair, white dress, her head down, no, she doesn’t let him look at her face, not directly. His breath catches in his throat; he makes a sound, somewhere between a cough and a scream.

He should be used to this by now, used to her. The simple fact she can still surprise him like this is what keeps all of this from becoming commonplace. He thinks he picks up on the sound of her laugh, the way it would ring like silver in his ears, but he is mistaken.

She loves him.

No, that’s not quite right.

She loved him.

She tries to remember the time before she felt those things. this task of hers is more difficult than one would expect, the simplicity of trying to remember when she existed before they met, before she wandered into his life. This a burden she has not yet managed to bear.

Was there a time before they collided and destroyed each other’s worlds?

She hates him.

She never hated him while she was alive, she should have, she knows that he deserved it. He deserved her hate.

She does hate him now. She knows is both a beginning and an ending.

Hate can be powerful, but not as powerful as fear.

She fears him now.

She feared him then.

There are ghosts and memories in this house that even she fears. This man, he only fears her. It is what keeps her here.

She opens her mouth, and she invites the rage that burns in her throat to finally have a voice and it feels like fire, waiting to be born. She feels it rushing out of her. It is a scream that has taken 60 years to finally be birthed.

She opens her mouth, and all that’s there is saltwater.

Excerpt

“Father,” he grinned. “What’s with the next valley over? It’s like winter over there, all cold and dark.”

“Evil is there, don’t say you…”

“No, I stayed in the forest father. I didn’t like the look of it.”

“Good, remember to stay away, too,” he scolded.

“Evil? What type of evil lives close to us?”

“Why so interested Caspian?”

“I – I heard a girl singing with such a pure voice, it was beautiful.”

“Pure evil,” he frowned. “Stay away, the witches don’t like strangers, most never come back.”

“Don’t worry father, I was only wondering.”

“Remember, curiosity killed the cat.”

They entered the house, grabbing a drink of ale each as they sat waiting for their dinner.

‘You want to know who I am? Well, let’s see!

I’m British born and bred, although I have lived most of my life in New Zealand. Sweet as? (Kiwi Saying) I love New Zealand, best little country in the world today, though I’m sure others will have different opinions.

First and foremost, I am a wife and mother of four children, though we lost our youngest 17 years ago. My husband and I have been married for 28 years this year. Our two eldest daughters are in the UK having their OE (Overseas Experience as they call them in Kiwiland). My son is about to start university to study architecture.

This will be the first time my husband and I will have true freedom to do as we wish, when we wish, without the phrase “Get a room” from the kids with our reply of “Don’t need one. Got a house.” And that was just about kissing…lol. Kids these days!

I am a Family History Researcher and have been for the past twenty years. I fell into writing in 2012 and became a multi-genre author because the muses…yeah more than one…wouldn’t shut the up. I have published over thirty books and have over a hundred drafts on my computer. My main genres are Children’s Adventure Stories, Young Fantasy, Young Adult Fantasy, New Adult Murder Mystery Romance under my own name. Under my pen name of Beth Bayley, I write Contemporary Billionaire Romance (reverse aka the woman is the billionaire) as well as a set of Mythical Welsh stories. I also have one wayward muse who I call Chloe King who is an Erotic Author. Pain in the … and a nympho. Meanwhile, I’ll stay prudish, thanks.

In 2014 I set up my own Publishing Company called Plaisted Publishing House Ltd, which now runs an Author Assist program for Formatting, Editing and Book Covers. We’ve helped over 32 clients in various different ways. We also do Family History Books.

I join EE last year, though I have only recently found the time to get my first book sorted. It is called ‘The Dark Valley’ by Claire Plaisted and is about a young woman who is strong in nature.

Fantastic International Thriller

Maria Ellena Alonso Sierra – best-selling author of The Coin Duology

I’m a medievalist.
I think I have been since I was six years old, when my sister and I rummaged through our parents’ library to study and read the illustrated books gracing most of the bookshelves. You see, my mother and father were ballet dancers and choreographers. For inspiration, they not only based their works on classical music, but they also based costumes, ballet poses, and story inspirations on the classics—Greek myths, Shakespeare’s works, medieval manuscript illustrations. One award-winning ballet, choreographed by my father, was Orfeo, based on the Greek myth of Orpheus, where my mother danced as Eurydice, Orpheus’ wife. My mother choreographed another award-winning ballet, based on Shakespeare, but with medieval costumes and some poses. My Masters’ thesis is on 12th century French romances and the interconnectivity between their plot and the law, the latter which was burgeoning as universities were being established throughout all of Europe during the mid-to-high Middle Ages.
So, how could I resist not making my main character, Gabriela Martinez, into an artist, an illustrator to be exact, whose main goal had always been to reproduce the illustrations of medieval manuscripts?
I couldn’t.
In my first suspense novel, The Coin, my other main character, Richard Harrison, learns Gabriela is a painter/illustrator. Intrigued, not only about her skills, but also about the woman he is now falling for, Richard spends some time with Gabriela in her studio office, watching how she works. In my original draft, I had a scene where she spoke to Richard about several illustrations she had on her desk that had to do with the topic of the follow-up novel, The Book of Hours. But, after a couple of edits, I had to take the scene out because it did not advance the plot/suspense. I did keep, however, the suspense point where Gabriela gets into trouble because of her love of manuscripts, as well as her desire to reproduce them.
And that appears in chapter seventeen of The Coin, where the reader really understands what her goals are for the future:

Excerpt:

Albert smiled and guided her through the rose garden. “Glad to hear it, especially after the news I received this morning.”
“What news?”
“There are two properties near Dublin which I’m interested in acquiring—for investment purposes, of course—and I’ll be traveling there at the end of month.”
Gabriela’s forehead crinkled in confusion. Why on earth was he bringing this up? Unless this was his way of telling her he’d no longer be able to promote her works. “Hey, don’t apologize on my account. You have a profitable business to run, and I’ve already usurped enough of your precious time. And with the quantity of work I have now, I’ll be busy for the next year and a half.”
Albert shook his head. “As I was saying, I’ll be leaving for Dublin at month’s end, and I was planning for you to accompany me.”
Gabriela stopped. With hands on hips, she turned to stare at Albert. “What do you mean, you want me to accompany you?”
Albert ignored her suspicious query. “Through a titled friend of Saint-Jore, I have been able to get an introduction to the curator of the library at Trinity College. We have been corresponding back and forth now for about three months. A week ago, I sent him a fax and advised him of my plans to visit the area. I also requested a small favor. He gave his answer today, and it was affirmative.”
Gabriela was mystified, her mind trying to put the pieces together. Trinity College Library? What on earth did that have to do with her? “You’re not going to give me any more hints?” she asked.
“What does that library have that interests you?”
Her eyes widened in shocked incredulity. “The Book of Kells?” she breathed softly, afraid the rising hope and excitement in her would evaporate in the air.
Albert smiled in triumph. “I knew you’d come up with the answer.”
“But, Albert, the Book of Kells? Are you sure they’ll let me see it?”
“Not only see it, but study it. Of course, you’ll have to be accompanied at all times, wear protective gloves and I don’t know what else, but that shouldn’t pose any problems for you.”
Gabriela closed her eyes, wondering what she had done to deserve such a magnificent friend. The Book of Kells was the most beautiful manuscript ever created and to study it personally was a chance in a lifetime, especially since she wanted to create one of her own, using all the ancient techniques. It was a personal dream come true.
“It will require that you leave for several days, of course. That’s why I was worried you’d allow Roberto to get in the way.”
“He wouldn’t dare, not after what I’m sacrificing for his damn contract.”
Albert eyed her with curiosity. Her tone had been almost vicious. “What sacrifices?”

Welcome to the blog tour for Mistral Dawn’s new novel, Answers From Alyce

Blurb

If someone asked you to explain what’s going on in the world right now, would you be able to?
What if the person who was asking had no prior knowledge of our world, how difficult would it be to help them makes sense of current events?
That’s the challenge Alyce is presented with when she’s kidnapped by aliens who want her help in creating a museum of curiosities based on Earth’s culture.
Follow Alyce down the rabbit hole as she experiences the journey of a lifetime; the trip might just paint the reality you’ve become accustomed to in a new color…

Characters are clever and in many cases entertaining while the commentary is clearly outlined and yet still thoughtfully delivered.”

“I stayed riveted to this book until the very end. You get that rabbit, Alyce.”
