DAY 7 #MarchoftheWriters

Author Tribe

Gosh, there are so many people I should thank for helping me to get where I am today.

I certainly wouldn’t have as many books published if it wasn’t for a group on Facebook, which at this time I can’t remember the name of, but I do remember it was run by Marjory.
We would trade fake money to buy a service. Such as, say I would beta read someone’s short story and was given $1000 trading bucks by the author. I need a new cover but I don’t have enough trading bucks to pay for it so, I will trade a cover from a designer, in return for a book trailer. She gets the book trailer, I get my cover and we’re both happy. This went on for years. Huge shout out to Sharon Lipman from Fantasia Cover Designs
We traded, we swapped services, and we were able to get our books finished and ready for publication without it costing us anything. I know I didn’t have the money back then to afford an editor, let alone a book cover.
Sadly as life moves on, so does your tribe. I can’t remember what the group was called as it was so long ago, but I know I still have around 140,000 trading bucks in my bank. lol

Next, I want to shout out to all the members of the Authors-Professionals Co-op on Facebook. The group has now almost come to a standstill, which is sad. But I know how much the regular, active members got from this group. I’ve made lifelong friends. I met my co-author, Karen J Mossman, with who, I wrote Toxic with. And an amazing man who helped get my daughter, Alexia’s, first illustrated book published. He’s the brains behind the EE branding Electric Eclectic, and he’s an amazing author, Paul White. There are more members, but I can’t remember names, so thank you for your support and for helping me along on my journey.

You’ve heard me mention his name several times already in posts. He’s an advocate for indie artists, owning and running one of the biggest media platforms for indie artists such as authors, directors, actors, musicians and more, And he’s an author himself, with books you all need to check out called, Amongst The Killing and We The Moral Majority. So big thank you for all you’ve done for me Mr Joe Compton and on behalf of all indie artists that you have helped promote, with Go Indie Now, we salute you.

And, recently I met a wonderful lady who runs The Writer’s Tribe Facebook group. I haven’t been a member here long, but I’ve been welcomed into the tribe and then practically forced to write by Venessa Giunta and her sprints, lol. So, shout out to our cheerleader, who is inspiring, bubbly and always encouraging the tribe.

So many other people have played a part in helping me on my journey. Please forgive me if I haven’t singled you out that doesn’t mean I think any less of you, it just means my memory, which I have problems with, couldn’t remember you at the time I wrote this post.

I am just a little cog in the indie writing community but you are MY TRIBE.

Meanwhile, the killer has been caught, but he refuses to talk. Now, it’s up to Cassie to read the signs and rescue her lover’s sister.

Will she find the answers in time?

Available as a paperback and on Kindle Unlimited

The Killer on the Heath is the first of a forthcoming trilogy.

Meet Cassie, the main protagonist in a character interview on the blog of J. M. Northup

He could be anywhere, I realised. He might be striding down this very street, seemingly normal. That’s what made him even more dangerous. He could be choosing another victim from the crowd while everyone else just thought him to be a regular guy. They wouldn’t know what he’s done, or the life he’s taken for his own gratification.’

I considered how and why people could be so cruel to each other. When I’d asked Seb, he’d said, “Not everyone’s wired the same. Some people think what they’re doing is okay.”“How is that possible?” I’d asked him.

“Take Plinth,” he continued, “being brought up by parents who didn’t give a damn and mistreated him set the stage for the man he’d become. He didn’t have a proper standard to compare to, and the power he enjoyed only reaffirmed his beliefs.”

“You can stop that right now!” A shrill voice crashed into us, throwing us apart guiltily. His mother stood in the doorway, disapproval written all over her face. For a fraction of a second, her eyes lingered on my chest where my nipple stood erect. Once more she had caught me in a compromising position. I felt like a child being found doing something I shouldn’t. What is it with this woman? Couldn’t she have waited until we returned?!

‘The original short story was born in 2018. I liked it, and wrote another and another. I soon had a collection of short stories.’

The Killer on the Heath is published by Norns Triad Publications and was introduced to the world in September.

Watch and listen to the author read an exciting excerpt from her book.

October 3rd to the 9th in honour of Mystery Week we are offering the book at the knock down price of 99p.

Excerpt

One day, several years later, Jorge was out hunting with Josie. The King’s music filled the air, and Jorge stopped and lowered his bow. Its mournful song tore into his soul with its beauty.
The musical notes had become transparent, accompanied by a myriad of rainbow colours. Every time he saw them, their beauty grew.
Josie watched him gazing into the air for a moment and then said, “You’re seeing them, aren’t you?”
Jorge nodded. He could never be untruthful to the girl he would eventually marry. “Soon I shall join the others and visit the castle to watch the King play.”
“But your parents forbade you,” she reminded him.
“I don’t want to hurt them, but the music calls me, Josie. I have no choice. One day soon, I must go.”
“Then I will accompany you. You should tell your parents what you intend to do.”
Jorge agreed, and, when they returned home, he said goodbye to Josie and decided now was the time to tell his parents.

Excerpt:

The Glory of Food

I like cooking, so I cook for Brian. He enjoys it, and then I enjoy him. Can I say that? Oh well, I just did. Dr Brian was hot and likes his food hot.

“Cook me a curry,” he’d say, and I always obliged. Afterwards, Brian will oblige, too.

Sex is like cooking. Take boil for example; he brings me to the boil and calls me his little tart. Okay, so I have two hobbies and Brian is my man of the moment.

Yes, there have been a few others before him, but so what? Men have lots of conquests so why shouldn’t a woman? That doesn’t make her easy, does it? Ah, well, so what.

Things came together nicely. I’d returned from a holiday in South America, and that’s when I met Brian.

On our first date, I cooked at his flat. I made him coffee and put in salt instead of sugar. Not a good start, but he forgave me, and we’ve now been together for 6 months.

I try more adventurous recipes and he rewards me with more adventurous sex. It works for both of us.

Then he said he wanted someone to cook for me and it was my turn to be spoilt with good food at a restaurant. I hadn’t the heart to tell him I was feeling unwell. I was nauseous and kept excusing myself to visit the bathroom. Eventually, when I returned, Brian had paid the bill, and we were on our way home.

Usually, after a good meal, we’d work off the calories, but I had hardly eaten anything, and Brian looked at me with concern. The following morning, the pain had subsided, but I still felt ill. I was shocked when I looked in the mirror. As I came out of the bathroom Brian did a double take. He whisked me away with great speed.

Actually, he saved my life; his swift action caught my yellow fever in time. When I come home, I will cook him the best curry in the world. Afterwards, he said, he’d show me how to spice it up and I can’t wait for that!

Excerpt

That night, she woke in a cold sweat. Jamie tried to rouse her. Again, she ignored him until he went away. She was dreaming she was lost on the moors alone. She could hear her brothers calling her and couldn’t find them, whichever way she turned. Her mum was in the clouds trying to guide her, but she just couldn’t get there.

Getting up, Amanda went into the kitchen for a glass of water. She took it to the lounge window and stared out into the darkness. Somewhere an owl called and the full moon illuminated the gardens.

Suddenly she felt a stirring inside… Aaron. As twins, they used to know what the other was thinking and felt linked. She long since learnt to blot him out, especially when she lived on the streets.

The sensation of him flooded through her and now she had let him in, she somehow knew he was awake too.

For the first time in a long time, she called his name from somewhere deep inside. His voice was clear in her head. He was looking at the night sky too and she had the strongest urge to pick up the phone. She turned to look at it. Go on; go on, she heard him say.

“Cassie came to me one night and the following morning I wrote a short story. I found myself really liking her, she was funny, sassy, and had a great relationship with her brother. Two more stories followed and I ended up with four stories which I put into a book and called in The Adventures of Cassidy Newbold.

I was then challenged to write a short story featuring a hot male and motor sport of some kind. So I decided to make it a Cassie Newbold story.”

Excerpt

Damien and Daniel were very much alike, and I much preferred Damien, which was just as well, really. Their look and build were so similar they could have been twins, but they weren’t.

Rachel was saying, “Every encounter I’ve had with her has been on the stairs or the landing. I even heard her name whispered. That’s why I knew it. I couldn’t believe it when you said it out loud, Cassie. Have you come across something like this before?”

The waitress arrived and took our orders. When she left, they looked at me expectantly.

“Nothing surprises me anymore. Your ghost seems intent on reliving the day she died. She was a slave brought into the country and then someone killed her.”

Rachel gasped, Daniel and Damien appeared sceptical and Damien said, “Come on, how can you possibly know that…”

“I saw someone at the top of the stairs, they moved away as I looked up.”

“They’re not real, y’know,” Damien said.

Rachel answered him. “Then how do you explain what happened?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know, it’s just bizarre.”

“It is.” I agreed.

“Well, I’m sorry,” Rachel said, emphatically. “There is no way I’m moving in with her walking up and down the stairs like that.”

Daniel huffed, his eyes gazing heavenwards with expirations. “This is going well!”

“So, what’s next?” Rachel asked, looking at me. Her large eyes blinked several times, and I think she expected me to perform a miracle.

“All I can tell you is what you already know. The house is haunted. I don’t know if I can stop it if that’s what you’re expecting.”
